How long does it take to get Canadian PR?

How long it takes to get a Permanent Residency (PR) visa in Canada is undoubtedly the most pressing question on your mind after you have submitted your application for Canada PR.

This does not surprise us. We have compiled information on Canada PR visa processing times based on our experience assisting many clients in obtaining their Canada PR visas.
The time it takes the IRCC to process your Canada PR application is defined as the processing time. The processing time is the time it takes from when they receive your application to when they decide on it.

Each immigration program that leads to a PR visa has a different processing time.

• Express Entry program-6 months
• Work permit- 1 to 27 weeks
• Study permit-1 to 16 weeks

Factors that affect the processing time:

Even though the processing time begins the day, you submit your application, whether, by mail or online, a lot depends on how carefully you follow the steps for your PR application. Your application may be delayed or rejected if you do not submit the required documents. So, submit your application on time and with all the necessary documents.

The processing time is also determined by the type of application or immigration program for which you have applied. Depending on the number of applications received, processing times for each immigration program vary. Some immigration programs receive the same number of applications each month, so processing times are consistent. Some programs may receive more applications in one month, resulting in a variation.

Some other factors that could affect your processing time:

It takes the immigration department a certain amount of time to process your application.
The time it took to verify the information you sent
The time it took for you to respond to any requests for information

Different processing times for various immigration programs:

If you used the Express Entry Program to apply for your visa, the average processing time would be six months. For the Express Entry program, you must submit an online application that will be placed in the Express Entry pool and ranked against other applications based on your CRS (comprehensive ranking system). An Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency will be issued if you meet the criteria.

Suppose you choose the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). In that case, the processing time is similar to that of the Express Entry program, but it is slightly longer. It takes 12 months on average for the application to be processed.

The Quebec Skilled Workers Program (QSWP), a provincial program run by the province of Quebec, is another popular immigration program. This program's processing time differs from that of other immigration programs. The average processing time ranges from 12 to 16 months.

Reasons for delay in processing your visa:

You have followed all of the application guidelines, submitted all of the required documents, and paid all of the required fees. You are now waiting for your visa to be processed. You expect to hear from Canadian immigration authorities, but the response to your gratitude is taking much longer than expected. Now you're worried about what went wrong. Have you made an error in your application? Did you fail to pay the correct processing fees? Don't worry; we've listed some possible reasons for the delay below.

Errors in payment of required fees

The Canada PR visa process, like any other government process, requires you to pay a fee for each step. Each type of application has a different set of costs. Suppose you have not paid the total amount or forgotten to pay specific process fees. In that case, your visa application may be delayed.

You most likely paid the processing fees with a bank draft or a check. Because the immigration office only accepts online payments for visa processing fees, this is likely to be returned to you.

Though many visa offices will accept processing fees in your home currency, you should check the specific website to determine the amount rather than relying on the current exchange rate.

When paying your fees, make sure you pay the correct amount using the proper method to avoid delays in processing time.

Incomplete application forms

An incomplete application form is another common reason. Applicants frequently fail to sign in all of the required places or sign in areas where they are not necessary, causing the application to be returned and causing a delay in processing. Some application forms may be missing the required Canadian pr visa documents.

When submitting your application, carefully follow the application checklist to avoid delays in processing time. In the worst-case scenario, the verifying officer may believe you raised false information or are attempting to game the system, causing further delays.

Failure to provide a cover letter

A cover letter can explain why you are applying for a PR visa and why you are qualified. These elements make it simple to review your application and speed up the review process. Though not critical, failure to provide a cover letter may result in a delay in processing time.

Failure to follow the IRCC document checklist

You must include all of the documents requested by IRCC in your visa application. Based on your specific case, you may be required to provide additional information to the IRCC. Prompt submission of this information can improve processing time.

They are not providing the correct size photo.

The PR visa application forms require you to submit passport photos of the specified size for your application. If you do not send the correct size, the visa application form may be returned to you.

Check the status of your application:

After the immigration authorities have begun processing your application, you can check the status of your application online. Use your application number to check your status. You will be able to check once you have received an acknowledgment of receipt of your application.
Several factors determine the processing time of your Canada PR visa application. If you follow the application process carefully and submit all required documents, your visa may be processed promptly. A better option is to consult with an immigration expert who will assist you throughout the entire PR visa application process.
