Step 1 – Verify the Company File Size from the Properties Section

If your QuickBooks takes forever to open, you need to verify the company file size.

  1. Navigate to the QuickBooks company file folder and right-click the company file to select Properties and check the file size.
  2. If you are using QuickBooks Pro and the company file size is more than 150 MB, then you need to use QuickBooks Condense Data Utility to reduce the file size by clicking the File tab.
  3. Select Condense Data from under the Utilities section and put a checkmark next to the “Keep all transactions, but remove audit train info to date” option.
  4. Click Next and wait until the “Your company file has been successfully condensed” message appears, and hit Close to run QuickBooks again.

Step 2 – Rename the QBWUSER File by Modifying the File Extension

You need to repair the QBWUSER file to run the QB application correctly.

  1. Open Windows File Manager by pressing the Windows + E keys on the desktop and navigate to the C drive to follow this path - ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks folder.
  2. Make sure Windows is set to Display Windows Hidden Files to locate and right-click the QBWUSER.INI file.
  3. Select Rename and add .OLD at the end of the file name, followed by saving the file by hitting Enter.
